A fiberglass cue would be a major downgrade from what you are using now. They are trash. Stay with what you're using, or save up for a higher quality brand name or custom cue (with a maple shaft, of course).

I will repeat that Kracker is literally the only person I've ever heard say a bad word about McDermott products. And djkx1 is correct, you cannot use any jump cues in the APA, but any league or tournament that allows jump cues should allow them. If you want to jump in the APA and cannot do it with your playing cue, look into getting a jump/break cue. They are legal to use as long as you do not remove the bottom section of the cue when jumping. Make sure you can jump with one before you buy though.

its been so long since i've played with one but i do remember that you either have to wear a glove or use tons of chalk...maple plays much better

The Brand name dosn’t matter as for the pros they cant even have the same rule on that some do some dont

There are many fine cuemakers. If you wish a mass produced cue then a Viking, Meucci, Mcdermott, Lucasi are all good choices. I personally play with a cue made by Mike Bender from Delta Junction, Alaska. Solid hit, quality materials and manufacturing. Too expensive ($2500) for a beginner. If you can go somewhere and test hit a few different cues by all means find one that you like the feel of.
