Fiberglass pool sticks?

Friday, April 9th, 2010

I was looking at getting a new pool stick. I saw a fiberglass one, but dont really know anything about them. I have a Mcdermott now, but saw a fiberglass one that I really like. If anyone can give me the pros and cons to fiberglass cues, I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks.

The feel of graphite and fiberglass cues have been criticized by the pool playing community for being very bad in that they are harder to maintain (compared to wood cues) and feel stiff. Because of this, they are usually used as break cues. If the fiberglass or graphite on a cue is scratched, it is rendered unrepairable. Also, after some use, the materials become very glossy and thus not as smooth as they were originally.

how would one go about making their own pool stick from scratch?

Friday, March 26th, 2010

im wondering if anyone know’s where i could find some blueprints on making a pool sticks. it sounds like a fun project.
if it was that easy i would do that. i just need to know how to balance the wieght out threwout the stick, what kinda of wood is the best, the typical dimensions of a pool stick. and i need a lathe.

That would be tough but people do make custom cues. Try looking up Custom Cues or call Mullers or some place like that. If it turns out good than maybe you could start your own cue brand

What is the proper name for the pool/snooker sticks you hit the ball with?

Monday, March 22nd, 2010

Cue, cue stick or pool cue in general terms. Some snooker players will refer to their cue as a "snooker" cue because of the demensions of the shaft. The ones who play billiards (no pockets) refer to them as "billiard" cues again because of the demension of the "stick" itself and taper of the shaft.

A common question around the pool rooms is "…what cha shootin with?" Most would respond with the name brand or name of the cue maker.
